Science & Environmental Laboratory

Stennis maintains the capabilities of the Environmental Laboratory to ensure that the Stennis site operates within the requirements of government regulations and to provide other environmental services to NASA.

The Environment Laboratory typically works with samples from drinking water, wastewater, ground and surface water, plant tissues, hazardous waste, industrial waste, oil and sludge, paint samples, soil remediation, and land use mitigation.

The Environmental Laboratory is certified to US EPA criteria by the State of Mississippi Department of Health Laboratory (MSDH). Our analytical services are performed in accordance with EPA methodology meeting the strict environmental testing requirements of such programs as:

  • National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES)
  • National Primary Drinking Water Regulations (NPDWR)
  • Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA)
  • Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA)
  • Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA)
  • American Public Health Association (APHA)

The HazMat/HazWopper trained staff offers broad insight into environmental problems, laws (CFR40) and operational rules. Scientific Services are a key component for NASA's certification to ISO 9001 and 14001.

Our team of chemists and biologists is focused on meeting your analytical and quality requirements; we assure this by recruiting and keeping the best analysts and technicians, using the latest techniques and sound scientific approaches.
